Port workers for termination of NCT pact with pvt operator

Chittagong: : Dockworkers of Chittagong Port (CP) Friday asked the caretaker government to punish the corrupt port officials and employees including its chairman. They demanded departmental investigation into alleged bribery, non-transparent deals and land encroachment.

Leaders of the Awami League-backed Dock Bandar Sarbadalia Sramik Karmachari Sangram Parisad at a press conference at Chittagong Press Club levelled allegations of corruption against Chittagong Port Authority (CPA) Chairman AMM Shahadat Hossain, Project Director Khairul Mostafa, Estate Officer Zillur Rahman and a syndicate of BNP-backed port workers and leaders.

The leaders also demanded cancellation of the agreement with Saif Power Take for operations of the New Mooring Container Terminal (NCT).

They said the port operators charge only Tk 5 for handling each container, while Saif Power Take charges Tk 470 for the same and the deal helps plundering of crores of taka.

Parishad Secretary Mohammad Mahfuzur Rahman read out a written speech at the press conference, while Golam Mohammad Chowdhury, Abdul Ahad, Air Ahmed and Wahidullah Sarkar also spoke, among others, on the occasion.
