Praxair to set up a new plant for JSW steel
Bangalore: Praxair India, a part of US-based industrial gas supplier $9.4 billion Praxair Inc, is setting up a new on-site industrial gas plant for JSW Steel Limited, at Toranagallu in Bellary district. The company is likely to invest close to Rs 350 crore for this plant.
The plant, which will have 1,800 cubic tonnes per day of oxygen, will be on a build, own and operate (BOO) basis and meet JSW's increasing requirements for expansion. It will produce oxygen, nitrogen and argon gases and also supply to other customers in south India, a company press release said.
JSW Steel Ltd is expanding its Bellary plant's present 4 million tonne per annum (MTPA) production capacity to 10 MTPA by 2010. In a joint venture with JSW, Praxair has already built two air separation plants of 2,500 metric tonnes per day each and operating for the past nine years.
With more than 35 operating locations in the country, Praxair registered a consolidated sales of $148 million in 2007.
