Prayagraj–Mirzapur Highway to Be Expanded to Four Lanes for Improved Connectivity and Traffic Flow.

In a significant step toward boosting regional connectivity and reducing traffic congestion, the Prayagraj–Mirzapur National Highway is set to be widened to a four-lane road. The Public Works Department (PWD), under the National Highway section, has initiated groundwork and survey operations for the project, aimed at improving travel between the two key Uttar Pradesh cities.

The move comes following directions from Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari, who instructed officials to address the persistent traffic issues on the current two-lane highway. As part of the central government’s infrastructure push for the new financial year, the expansion is expected to greatly enhance road safety and commuting efficiency along the 86-kilometre route.

Preliminary survey work began in Prayagraj shortly after the Holi festival, focusing on a 50-kilometre stretch between Leprosy Mission Square and Manda. Four expert teams have been deployed to develop a Detailed Project Report (DPR), with special attention to land acquisition. Meanwhile, the National Highway section in Mirzapur is overseeing surveys on the remaining section up to Mirzapur.

Assistant Engineer Vishal Seth stated that the DPR will take around three months to complete. Once finalized, it will be submitted to the Ministry for approval and further execution.

The long-awaited upgrade is expected to deliver smoother travel, reduced traffic bottlenecks, and improved road safety, finally addressing a major demand of local residents and daily commuters.
