Private Sector to Inject ₹77,000 Crore into Thermal Power by FY28: CRISIL.
India's thermal power sector is poised for a significant investment surge, with established private sector players expected to inject approximately ₹77,000 crore over the next three fiscal years (FY26–FY28). This substantial commitment marks a notable shift in the investment landscape for the sector.
According to a report by CRISIL Ratings, the overall investments in thermal power across India, encompassing both public and private sector companies, are projected to double to ₹2.3 lakh crore over the same three-year period.
Historically, private companies have played a relatively minor role in thermal power investments, contributing only about 7–8 percent. However, CRISIL's analysis indicates a dramatic increase in their participation, with private players now anticipated to account for nearly one-third of these total investments. This growing involvement from the private sector underscores a renewed interest and confidence in the long-term prospects of thermal power generation in the country.
