Provide Rail Link to Amaravati: Chief Secretary.

With no rail connectivity for Amaravati, the new capital of Andhra Pradesh, chief secretary IYR Krishna Rao has directed officials to take steps to get a new railway line for the capital city by connecting the Vijayawada-Chennai lane with Guntur-Macherla lane via Amaravati.

The chief secretary, who held a review meeting with the officials of energy, infrastructure and investment departments on the progress of ongoing airport, ports and logistics, gas and infrastructure projects in the State at secretariat on Tuesday, asked energy secretary Ajay Jain to immediately take steps to get a new rail line for the capital city.

While reviewing projects related to airports, the chief secretary said four additional parking bays and one isolation bay works have been finalised for the Tirupati airport which is likely to be completed by July 2016.

He further said out of 732 acres of land earmarked for the expansion of Tirupati airport, 725 acres has been handed over to the Airports Authority of India (AAI).

Work for construction of a new passenger terminal at Vijayawada Airport at a cost of Rs. 137 crore has started, he said.

The Buckingham Canal would be developed in three phases. In the first phase, North Buckingham Canal would be developed from Ennore sea mouth to Pedaganjam (300 km), Kommamu, Eluru and Kakinada Canal from Pedaganjam to Kakinada (302 km phase-2) and development of river portion of 328 km in the third phase.
