Punjab to revamp over 3,500 km link roads.

Punjab Government recently approved a comprehensive plan to revamp the 3651.12 km arterial network of link roads in the state with an outlay of Rs. 557.36 crore.

Punjab PWD minister Sharanjit Singh Dhillon said tenders have been already floated to upgrade 3,263 km to be completed at the cost of Rs. 460 crore and PWD department has imposed strict quality control measures to ensure quality accomplishment of this task.

Dhillon said it is for the first time that such a large sum has been set aside for repair of link roads that are considered to be backbone of rural economy of the state.

Tenders for 388.12 km link road upgradation at the cost of Rs. 97.36 crore would be floated within next week, the minister said, adding, completion deadline for it has been fixed for September.

In Punjab, total length of link roads falling under 149 market committees is 58,703 km out of which, 29,922 km link roads falls in the jurisdiction of PWD (B&R) Punjab.
