Punjab to spend Rs 915 mn on drainage system improvement

Lahore: The Punjab Irrigation Department will spend Rs 915 million on the construction of Nikki Deg drain and improvement the drainage system to deal with flood and storm water in an area of 335 square miles in Sialkot, Gujranwala and Sheikhupura.

Punjab Minister for Irrigation Raja Riaz Ahmad, chairing a meeting of farmers and political activists of these districts, said this project would help in saving people from floods.

Drains as long as 116 miles, 235 structures, four DR bridge and 11 VR bridges, besides developing 74 water-course crossing signs, are the main components of this project. The Irrigation and Power Department is developing and improving the canals network in Punjab to help the growing needs of farmers needing canal water for crops.
