Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw reviewed the redevelopment work at Gorakhpur Junction Railway Station on Friday, accompanied by North Eastern Railway (NER) General Manager Saumya Mathur and senior railway officials.
During the visit, Mathur briefed the minister on the progress of key infrastructure projects under the NER. Other senior officials, including Chief Administrative Officer (Construction) Abhay Kumar Gupta, Principal Chief Engineer Neelmani, Principal Chief Operations Manager Anup Kumar Satpathy, and Lucknow Divisional Railway Manager Aditya Kumar, were also present.
Vaishnaw inspected a walkthrough video, master plan, and 3D model of the upgraded station, highlighting its design elements inspired by Gorakhpur’s cultural heritage. He expressed satisfaction with the progress but urged officials to expedite the work.
The minister later conducted a window trailing inspection from Gorakhpur to Bettiah, assessing the Gorakhpur Cantt-Valmikinagar doubling project. He instructed officials to accelerate the project and resolve bottlenecks to improve train operations. Vaishnaw also stressed the importance of advanced monitoring and workforce upskilling for efficient track and rolling stock maintenance.
NER General Manager Saumya Mathur, East Central Railway GM Chhatrasal Singh, and other senior officials were part of the inspection.
