Highways Minister T. B. Ekanayaka said prompt action has already been taken to send materials and equipment to areas where heavy damage was reported and road repair work has commenced.

He said after the roads are repaired, steps will be taken to reconstruct damaged bridges and culverts.
Meanwhile, RDA Project Engineer J. Sirinivasa said all provincial engineers in the country were directed to commence repairs as early as possible.

He said action will also be taken to do a full repair on the Colombo-Horana main road which had been damaged even before the recent rains began.
