'Ready to Grant Rs. 50K Cr for TN Road Network'.

Union Minister of Roadways, Highways and Shipping, Nitin Gadkari said that the Central government is ready to give Rs. 50,000 crore for improving road network projects of the Tamil Nadu.

Speaking during a meeting organised by the Madras Chamber of Commerce and Industry recently, Gadkari said if the state government cooperates in land acquisition the project will be implemented. He said that of the 12 projects that are currently stalled in the state, work has started on 10 of the projects.

He also said the union government is planning to build concrete roads instead of bitumen roads and planning to use oil slack for road construction. Union government has planned to develop Colachel port in Kanyakumari district. Gadkari said that Colachel has a draught of 20 metres and we are will propose this to the government. He said the state needs four to five ports and the government is planning for joint venture in ship building and ship breaking.
