The Rural Electrification Corporation (REC) has sanctioned ₹7,500 crore in funding for Brookfield’s hybrid renewable energy project in Kurnool, Andhra Pradesh, which will have a total capacity of 1,040 MW, including 640 MW of wind and 400 MW of solar.

With an estimated total project cost of ₹9,910 crore, this marks the largest REC sanction ever for a private-sector project, according to a statement from the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) on Monday.

The TDP noted, “REC has sanctioned a record ₹7,500 crore funding for Brookfield’s 1,040 MW hybrid renewable energy project at Kurnool, comprising 640 MW of wind and 400 MW of solar capacity.”

The project is expected to significantly contribute to India’s renewable energy capacity while supporting the transition to cleaner power sources.
