Reliance New Energy to Establish CBG Plant in Andhra Pradesh

In a significant move towards advancing green energy, the Andhra Pradesh government has partnered with Reliance New Energy Ltd, a division of Mukesh Ambani’s Reliance Industries, to establish 500 Compressed Biogas (CBG) plants across the state.

The first state-of-the-art plant, covering 475 acres in Prakasam district, is being developed with an investment of ₹139 crore and will have a production capacity of 100 tonnes. The total project investment is estimated at ₹65,000 crore, with the potential to create 2.5 lakh jobs over five years. Each plant will have a capacity of 22 tonnes per day and is expected to generate employment for 500 individuals.

Additionally, the initiative will make use of wasteland for energy plantations, promoting sustainable agricultural development. Andhra Pradesh’s Minister for Education and IT, Nara Lokesh, laid the foundation stone for the first Integrated CBG plant on Wednesday.

The state government has introduced policy incentives, streamlined land allotments, and expedited regulatory approvals to attract clean energy investments. Furthermore, the Clean Andhra Pradesh (CLAP) initiative is being integrated with bio-energy production, ensuring the efficient utilization of agricultural residues and organic waste to produce clean fuel.
