Resumption of Chittagong port urged
Dhaka: The BNP joint secretary general, Abdullah Al Noman, on Monday sought caretaker government's decision by today on resumption of Chittagong port operation for the sake of the country's economy.
'The government should take immediate measures to resume operational activities of the country's prime seaport and issue a press note on the deadlock in the port,' Noman, former minister, said while addressing a rally at Kazir Dewry Crossing in the city.
The BNP-led alliance, Chittagong organised the rally in protest against, what it said, the anarchic politics of the Awami League-led combine that has held hostage the entire nation by its the blockade programme and stoppage of Chittagong port operation.
'We want a clear and straight decision from the caretaker government on resumption of the port operation by today, otherwise, the BNP-led alliance along with the people would take necessary measures to resume the port operation,' Noman told the rally.
Criticising the role of law-enforcing agencies and the Chittagong port authorities, Noman said how the Chittagong city mayor, Mohiuddin Chowdhury, along with his only 100 supporters was able to stop the port operation.
He said a quarter hade been hatching conspiracy for a long time to destroy the country’s economy by jeopardising the port operation whenever it (the quarter) gets a chance to disturb the port operation in the name of movement.
