Rs. 20 Crore Road Construction, Relaying Project to be Taken Up.

The City Corporation has proposed the construction of new roads and mending of damaged roads for a 32.22-kilometre stretch within the city at the cost of Rs. 20 crore under the Integrated Urban Development Mission (IUDM) scheme.

Sixteen resolutions were passed in the urgent Corporation council meeting headed by Mayor P Rajkumar in the presence of Corporation Commissioner K Vijaykarthikeyan recently.

According to the proposal, 31 new roads will be constructed with funds under the IUDM scheme for the year 2014-15. The proposal will be sent to the directorate of municipal administration for approval and the allocation of funds for the projects.

The council passed a resolution accepting the tender for relaying of roads, which were damaged due to UGD work and the laying of drinking water pipelines at a cost of Rs 17.63 crore. The fund was allocated under the Tamil Nadu Urban Road Infrastructure Project (TURIP) scheme, and all tenders were accepted and work will begin soon.

In order to augment drinking water supply to newly added areas of the Corporation, including Thudiyalur, Vellakinaru, Chinnavedampatti, Saravanampatti, Vilankurichi and Kalapatti, the proposal was passed with the outlay of Rs. 198.80 crore, in which laying of new pipelines and the construction of overhead water tanks will be undertaken.

The Corporation has proposed the construction of infrastructure for the added areas of Kurichi and Kuniyamuthur at the cost of Rs. 150.20 crore.

A detailed project report was submitted with a revised estimated cost of Rs. 103.01 crore for establishing infrastructural facilities to increase drinking water supply to the newly added areas in the Corporation, including Goundampalayam, Vadavalli and Veerakeralam.
