Rs. 2070-lakh Projects in Fisheries Dept.
An amount of Rs. 2070.18 lakh has been granted for various projects in the Fisheries Department, Minister for Fisheries and Excise K Babu has said.
A sum of Rs .581.98 lakh has been granted for prawn farming. 'The prawn farming will be implemented in Alappuzha, Kottayam, Pathanamthitta, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Kannur and Kasaragod districts under the guidance of Kerala Aquaculture Development Agency (ADAC). The projects are expected to generate an income of around Rs. 1137 lakh,' the minister said.
A sum of Rs. 500 lakh has been granted for model aquaculture projects. The projects will be executed in Kollam, Alappuzha, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Kannur, Palakkad and Wayand districts under the guidance of ADAC.
The minister said that Rs. 850 lakh has been granted as interest-free loans for fisherwomen.
'For the renovation of Government Regional Fisheries Technical High School at Azheekal and the hostel block, Rs 103.50 lakh has been granted. The Harbour Engineering Department will be in charge of this project', the minister said.
High-level training will be imparted to officers in the Fisheries Department to upgrade their skills and it will be conducted at Central Government's institutes and fish farms at Bheemaram and Nellore in Andhra Pradesh. 'A sum of Rs. 25 lakhs are granted for training,’' the minister said.
