Rs. 300 crore for sewage, drinking water in Udupi.

Pramod Madhwaraj, Minister of State for Fisheries, Youth Empowerment and Sports, said recently that the State government had sanctioned Rs. 300 crore for providing underground drainage facility and drinking water facilities in Udupi.

He was speaking after inaugurating the Out-Patient Department Annexe of Manipal College of Dental Sciences here.

Mr. Madhwaraj said that a chunk of the amount would be spent for the development of underground drainage system in Manipal and adjoining areas. He said that the Manipal University was providing quality education and healthcare facilities. “To become the top university in the world should be the challenge,” he said.

Nirmala Rao, Dean of the department, said that the dental OPD annexe, provided a specialty level clinical experience with modular concept of space planning and layout with a view of the landscaped courtyards and outdoor spaces.

The 29,562-square feet facility was housed on two floors with provision for hi-tech dental chairs, mini-libraries, computer terminals, seminar halls with modern audio-visual aids and faculty chambers.

A comprehensive range of modern dental equipments were available to provide exceptional dental care.

“The open, interdisciplinary platform in the new OPD annexe strengthens relationships between the various dental specialty programmes emphasising continuity of care,” she said.

Mr. Madhwaraj was also felicitated on the occasion on his finding a Ministerial berth.

Ramdas M. Pai, Chancellor of Manipal University, H.S. Ballal, Pro Chancellor, H. Vinod Bhat, Vice-Chancellor, and V. Surendra Shetty, Pro Vice-Chancellor, were present.
