Rs. 800-crore works for labour society.

The Vadakara- based Uralungal Labour Contract Cooperative Society (ULCCS) has been awarded projects costing Rs. 809. 93 crore in the State.

The projects have been awarded by the Public Works Department under the District Flagship Infrastructure Project (DFIP)for National Highways and Road and Bridges. These include the construction of flyovers at Thondayad and Ramanattukara in Kozhikode city.

Official sources said the estimate prepared for the construction of the flyover at Thondayad was Rs 51.14 crore. The work will be executed in 18 months. The cost for the construction of the flyover at Ramanattukara ( Phase-1) was Rs. 74.96 crore and this would be completed in 18 months.

The other projects are improvement of the hill highway Cherupuzha- Payyavoor- Ulikkal- Vallithode road (59.415 km) in Kannur district (Rs 191.54 crore); improvement and upgrading of the Nadukan- Vazhikkadavu-Nilambur- Edavanna- Manjeri-Malappuram- Vengara- Thiruvambadi- Parappanangadi road (Rs 359.91 crore) and construction of Valiyazheekal Bridge across Kayamkulam lake connecting Kollam and Alappuzha (Rs 132. 10 crore).

These projects are executable within a time span ranging between 30 and 36 months. The agreements for these projects have already been executed and the site handed over to the contractor, according to a press statement.

An amount of Rs 280.47 crore is required for the working capital in the first year. It had a dedicated funding arrangement of a loan amount of Rs 250 crore.

The funds have been secured through a consortium of cooperative banks and societies. The Kozhikode District Cooperative Bank would give Rs.100 crore and the remaining Rs. 150 crore through cooperative societies.
