Rs 9,142-mn for lower Chenab Canal rehabilitation
Lahore: Senior Minister Punjab, Raja Riaz Ahmad, has said that a huge sum of Rs 9,142 million is being spent on the rehabilitation of second part of lower Chenab Canal System for improving the vast irrigation infrastructure and providing sustained supply of canals water to the farmers.
He was talking to farmers and MPAs at his office here on Wednesday, while briefing the participants about vision, strategy and policies of the Irrigation Department adopted for rehabilitation of irrigation infrastructure in Punjab.
During the briefing Raja Riaz informed the participants that a sustained and composite strategy has been adopted by the department and a total sum of Rs 11 billion is being spent under Annual Development Programme (ADP) for the purpose.
This project will help facilitate farmers of Faisalabad, Hafizabad, Sheikhupura and Toba Tek Singh, he maintained. A total of 1.690 million acres of land will be irrigated besides rehabilitation of 2,173 km long water channels and 231 bridges, he informed.
Raja Riaz said that Rs 1,716 million have been allocated for this project in the current ADP. He asked the farmers to increase per acre yield of wheat for feeding the increasing population and consume canals water with care.
