Sakthi Aircraft to Begin Trainer Aircraft Manufacturing in Tiruppur in January, Reducing India’s Import Dependence.
Sakthi Aircraft Industry Pvt Ltd (SAIPL), a Coimbatore-based company, is set to begin manufacturing trainer aircraft at its upcoming facility in Tiruppur, Tamil Nadu, in January, with deliveries expected by February or March, according to D Vaibhav, Managing Director and CEO of SAIPL and a part of the Sakthi Group.
The Tiruppur plant will be India’s first private-sector manufacturing facility dedicated to trainer aircraft. The development is expected to reduce reliance on imports, as Flying Training Organisations (FTOs) in the country have so far depended on overseas suppliers for training aircraft.
The Sakthi Group is investing ₹750 crore in the project. The investment covers the Tiruppur manufacturing unit, while a smaller facility in Uttar Pradesh is being established to support production tooling, maintenance infrastructure and licensing requirements, Vaibhav told businessline.
