Sandmaker Robo Silicon to set up 5 plants.
Hyderabad-headquartered Robo Silicon , among the pioneers to supply manufactured sand to the construction industry, is planning to set up five new plants in a year. This will add about 1,000 tonnes per hour (tph) capacity in all.
The company sells stone aggregates under the brand RoboSand. It is manufactured by crushing granite using vertical shaft impactor machinery. It is positioned as a substitute to river sand and as a viable, eco-friendly product.
The company currently has 14 plants across cities including three around Hyderabad. 'We can serve new demand for Robosand only by setting up plants. Each plant can cater within a radius of 50-60 km.
Each unit would require an investment of Rs. 10 to 12 crore,' said CV Subba Rao, chairman, Robo Silicon.
These would be funded long-term loans and internal accruals. The plants would come up near Mumbai, Benguluru, Vijayawada and Visakhapatnam. Some of these cities already have the plants and might be adding their second or third unit, he said. The cubical particle shape and absence of impurities aid in it being selected for producing concrete. The consumption of cement per cubic metre is reduced due to the well graded particle sizes, he said.
