Second Unit of Long-Delayed Ghatampur Thermal Power Project Finally Commissioned.

The second unit of the Ghatampur Thermal Power Plant in Uttar Pradesh was commissioned on Wednesday, adding another 660 MW of generation capacity to the grid. The coal-based project, comprising three units of 660 MW each, is owned by Neyveli Uttar Pradesh Power Limited (NUPPL), a joint venture between NLC India Limited, which holds a 51 per cent stake, and Uttar Pradesh Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Limited (UPRVUNL), which holds the remaining 49 per cent.

The commissioning follows the launch of the plant’s first unit in December 2024. With the latest addition, the project moves closer to full operational status.

Under existing power purchase arrangements, 75 per cent of the electricity generated by the plant will be supplied to UP Power Corporation at a levelized tariff of ₹4.52 per kWhr, while the remaining 25 per cent will be sold to the Assam power utility
