Sembcorp Renewables' Unit Secures 300 MW Solar Project from NHPC in Singapore
Singapore's Sembcorp Industries announced recently that its renewables unit has secured a 300-megawatt (MW) solar power project from the Indian government-run hydropower producer NHPC Ltd.
NHPC, in a letter of award, confirmed the final offer from Sembcorp's unit, Green Infra Wind Energy Ltd (GIWEL), and committed to purchasing the power output from the project for a duration of 25 years under a long-term power purchase agreement, according to a statement from Sembcorp.
The project, slated for commercial operation in 2026, will be financed through a combination of internal funds and debt, as stated by the energy and urban solutions provider.
This development follows closely on the heels of GIWEL's recent agreement with the India-based power producer Leap Green Energy. The agreement involved the acquisition of two special purpose vehicles holding 228 MW of operational wind assets located in the Indian states of Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Rajasthan.
Adding to its recent successes, Sembcorp also secured a tender from the Singaporean government agency JTC Corporation earlier this week. The tender award is for the largest solar project in the city-state.
These accomplishments underscore Sembcorp's growing presence and impact in the renewable energy sector, both in India and Singapore, as it continues to contribute to the global transition towards sustainable energy solutions.
