Shivajinagar-Kondhwa Metro DPR to Be Ready Within Three Months.

The detailed project report (DPR) for the proposed 20-kilometer Shivajinagar-Kondhwa Metro line, which includes a spur to the NIBM area, is expected to be completed within three months after the appointment of the consultancy agency, MahaMetro officials confirmed this week.

The new corridor aims to improve public transport access in Kondhwa, NIBM, and Yewalewadi and will serve as an extension of the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority’s (PMRDA) ongoing Hinjewadi-Shivajinagar Metro (PMR-3) project, which is being executed by Tata under a public-private partnership (PPP) model.

MahaMetro has floated tenders for appointing the consultant to prepare the DPR for the extension. Officials confirmed that the tenders have been received and the appointment process is in the final stages.

“The agency is expected to prepare the DPR within three months, after which it will be submitted to the state government and then forwarded to the Centre for approval,” a MahaMetro official said. The state government will have the final say on the project’s progression.

MLC Yogesh Tilekar, who recently raised the demand for the Metro line during the monsoon session, highlighted the growing traffic problems and rapid development in the Kondhwa-Yewalewadi area. He pointed out that while Metro connectivity has been approved up to Hadapsar, the Kondhwa stretch remains excluded from current plans.

“A dedicated Metro line is essential for this growing region,” Tilekar said, urging authorities to fast-track the project through the PPP model. He added that he plans to follow up with the divisional commissioner and MahaMetro officials in the coming week.

Residents in Kondhwa and Yewalewadi echoed the need for improved infrastructure. Seema Chavan, a local resident, told TOI, “The administration should focus on widening existing roads and strengthening public transport, especially with a Metro line connecting this area to the city center.”

Last year, the state government approved a Metro line connecting Khadakwasla-Hadapsar-Swargate and Kharadi, designed to link Pune’s western, southern, and eastern areas. MahaMetro officials noted plans to extend this line from Hadapsar to Saswad as part of Line-4, which would improve connectivity to the upcoming Purandar airport.

“This additional line will significantly enhance connectivity in the region,” a Metro official said.
