Shyam Metalics Enters Wagon Manufacturing with Kharagpur Plant.
In a significant strategic diversification, Shyam Metalics and Energy Ltd, an integrated metal producer, has announced its entry into the wagon manufacturing sector with a new greenfield facility in Kharagpur, West Bengal.
The state-of-the-art plant, being developed under its step-down subsidiary Ramsarup Industries Ltd, is expected to begin operations by March 2026.
The facility will be developed in two phases to ensure scalable growth and operational efficiency. Phase I will establish a production capacity of 2,400 wagons annually (approximately 8 wagons per day), with Phase II doubling the output to 4,800 wagons per year. The plant will be equipped to produce a comprehensive range of rolling stock, including flat, open, box, hopper covered, tank, and specialized wagons.
Sheetij Agarwal, Director of Shyam Metalics and Energy Ltd, commented on this expansion: “With our foray into wagon manufacturing, we are reinforcing Shyam Metalics’ vision of advancing India’s industrial self-reliance through high-impact, future-ready infrastructure. This facility reflects our commitment to innovation, sustainability, and nation-building."
