Silchar–Guwahati Corridor Foundation to Be Laid by Narendra Modi in March, Says Himanta Biswa Sarma.
Himanta Biswa Sarma recently announced that Narendra Modi will visit Assam in March to lay the foundation stone for the ambitious Silchar–Shillong–Guwahati high-speed corridor project.
Addressing a press conference in Guwahati, Sarma said the ₹22,864-crore project is expected to significantly transform regional connectivity by cutting travel time between Silchar and Guwahati to about 4.5 to 5 hours. He described the proposed corridor as a “game-changing” initiative and the largest infrastructure project to be implemented by the Union government in the state.
Sarma said the state has received sanctions for several key infrastructure projects. Under the Guwahati Ring Road project, the Kurua–Narengi bridge will be included, with the Union and Assam governments jointly spending ₹5,729 crore. Land acquisition for the project is estimated at ₹7,000 crore.
He further stated that the Union government will spend ₹6,957 crore on the Kaziranga elevated corridor project, aimed at improving connectivity and easing traffic movement in the region.
Reiterating the significance of the upcoming visit, Sarma said the Prime Minister’s foundation-laying ceremony in March would mark a major milestone in Assam’s infrastructure push, positioning the high-speed corridor as a catalyst for economic growth and improved mobility across the state.
