SJVN’s 1,000 MW Bikaner Solar Power Project Inaugurated by PM.

Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi inaugurated SJVN’s 1,000 MW Bikaner Solar Power Project from Pachpadra, Rajasthan, marking a major milestone in India’s renewable energy journey and reaffirming the country’s commitment to clean energy and sustainability goals.

The event was attended by several dignitaries, including the Hon’ble Governor of Rajasthan Shri Haribhau Kisanrao Bagde, Chief Minister Shri Bhajan Lal Sharma, Union Minister of Power and Housing & Urban Affairs Shri Manohar Lal, Union Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas Shri Hardeep Singh Puri, Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Law & Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Shri Arjun Ram Meghwal, Rajasthan Deputy Chief Ministers Smt. Diya Kumari and Dr. Prem Chand Bairwa, among others.

Senior officials of SJVN and its renewable arm SJVN Green Energy Limited (SGEL), including CMD Shri Bhupender Gupta and other directors, also joined the event virtually.

Developed by SJVN through SGEL in Bikaner, the project has been executed with an investment of around ₹5,492 crore across nearly 5,000 acres. It is India’s largest single EPC solar project under the Domestic Content Requirement (DCR) category at a single location, highlighting the use of indigenous manufacturing capabilities.

The project is expected to generate about 2,454.84 million units of electricity in its first year of operation and approximately 56,482.14 million units over its 25-year lifespan. Power generated will be supplied to Rajasthan (500 MW), Uttarakhand (200 MW) and Jammu & Kashmir (300 MW), strengthening inter-state clean energy distribution.

Over its operational life, the project is projected to reduce nearly 2.79 billion kilograms of carbon emissions, contributing significantly to India’s climate action commitments.

A key feature of the project is its alignment with the Government of India’s Make in India and Atmanirbhar Bharat initiatives. It has deployed around 24.22 lakh domestically manufactured DCR solar modules and about 175 crore indigenous solar cells, supporting domestic manufacturing and supply chains.

Beyond energy generation, the project has also contributed to regional development by creating more than 2,000 direct and indirect jobs during construction and commissioning. It has additionally supported the development of roads, transmission infrastructure and other allied facilities in the Bikaner region.

SJVN, a Navratna Central Public Sector Enterprise under the Ministry of Power, currently has an installed capacity of 4,196.5 MW and operates two transmission lines spanning 123 km. The commissioning of the Bikaner Solar Power Project further strengthens its renewable energy portfolio and its role in advancing India’s transition towards a sustainable and energy-secure future.
