SmartCity's first building to be inaugurated on schedule.

SCK01, the first IT building of SmartCity Kochi's (SCK) phase 1, will be inaugurated on June 1, 2015, as announced by Chief Minister Oommen Chandy after the board of directors' meeting last December, a release issued.

Close on the heels of the first building's inauguration, SmartCity Kochi is all set to launch its second IT building. SCK has approached Project Management Consultants (PMCs) to ensure that the second building would be as cutting edge and trendsetting as its first, if not more. Proposals from the PMCs are under scrutiny and architects and building specifications will be finalised within the next few weeks.

The SCK management claimed that over 50% of the space in the first building has already been confirmed for occupancy by major IT companies. The first building is expected to generate close to 5,000-5,500 jobs.

The LEED Platinum certified building with 1 lakh sq ft on a single floor plate is designed as a 'lifestyle at work' project, offering terrace gardening, large plazas, social spaces, supporting amenities, food court, banks and ATMs among others. Provisions have also been made to install solar panels (of 300 kW) on the rooftop, which aim to generate 500 kWh of power. With a unique courtyard design and a waterfront river view, this building is in the process of becoming a state-of-the-art workplace for IT companies and employees alike, the release said.

Work is also progressing on the supporting infrastructure including roads, bridges, power receiving and distribution systems, substations, water storage and distribution, drainage, cable and pipe trenches.
