"Steel Girders for MRTS Phase II Extension Launched at St Thomas Mount Yard"

Chennai's Mass Rapid Transit System (MRTS) Phase II Extension project, which will connect Velachery and St. Thomas Mount, achieved a significant milestone recently with the launch of steel girders for the Rail Over Rail Bridge at St Thomas Mount Yard.

The MRTS Phase II Extension project, covering a distance of five kilometers from Velachery to St. Thomas Mount, is now in its final stages of completion. On Tuesday, three out of the six steel girders were successfully launched above the existing railway lines in the Chennai Egmore-Tambaram section. The remaining three girders are scheduled for launch on the following day. These girders will serve as the foundation for the railway line connecting to St. Thomas Mount station, which is slated to become the new terminal station for Phase II of the MRTS.

According to a release from Southern Railway, Chennai Metro Rail Limited's (CMRL) Phase-2 metro line, running from Madhavaram to Sholinganallur, will run above the new line of MRTS Phase II at St. Thomas Mount.

To facilitate this crucial infrastructure work, a five-hour mega line/power block has been announced by the Chennai Division of Southern Railway from today to November 3. During this period, a total of 53 EMU services were fully canceled, and two pairs of Express trains were partially canceled on the Chennai Egmore-Villupuram section between 10.45 hrs to 15.45 hrs on the first day.

For the convenience of passengers, eight pairs of special EMU services were operated between Tambaram and Chengalpattu.

During the following three days, from November 1 to 3, nine EMU services each day will be canceled between 22.55 hrs and 02.55 hrs to facilitate the essential infrastructure work. Additionally, three Express trains will be partially canceled between Chennai Egmore and Tambaram, and one Express train will be diverted, as per the release."
