Steelbird to Invest ₹250 Crore in New Manufacturing Facility in Hosur.

Steelbird Hi-Tech India Ltd, a leading helmet manufacturer, is set to establish a new manufacturing facility in Hosur, Tamil Nadu, to meet the rising demand for branded helmets in India. The company has allocated ₹100 crore as capital expenditure (CAPEX) for the project, with the total planned investment reaching nearly ₹250 crore.

The Hosur facility will have an initial production capacity of 20,000 helmets per day and is expected to generate direct employment for around 2,000 people, according to Rajeev Kapur, Managing Director of Steelbird.

This expansion will complement Steelbird’s existing manufacturing operations, which include six facilities in Himachal Pradesh and three in Noida. Additionally, the company plans to set up a cycle helmet manufacturing plant, scheduled to be operational by the second half of 2025.

Steelbird, which currently holds a 40% share of India’s branded helmet market, is poised to capitalize on the significant unmet demand for helmets. “India’s annual demand for helmets is approximately 100 million units, but branded helmet production has not exceeded 30 million units, leaving a substantial gap,” Kapur noted.

He further highlighted the market potential: “With over 17 crore vehicles on Indian roads and a five-year replacement cycle for helmets, the replacement demand alone is about 34 million units annually. Additionally, new demand—assuming two helmets per two-wheeler—could add another 40 million units annually.”

South India is expected to play a pivotal role in Steelbird’s growth, contributing ₹500 crore to its ₹2,500 crore topline revenue target by 2030.

Founded in 1964, Steelbird initially focused on manufacturing automobile filters before diversifying into helmets and rubber components. The company produced 8 million helmets in 2023 and aims to double its output to over 10 million by the end of 2024, further solidifying its leadership in the market.
