Survey of Dehradun-Rishikesh-Haridwar metro line to start soon.

Survey of the proposed Dehradun-Rishikesh-Haridwar metro line is likely to start soon with Chief Minister Harish Rawat according top priority to the project to ease up increased traffic pressure on the roads of these cities.

Underlining the need for developing alternative modes of transport in the three cities, Rawat asked Mussoorie-Dehradun Development Authority and Uttarakhand Housing and Urban Development Authority to conduct a survey of the Dehradun-Rishikesh-Haridwar metro line project at the earliest, an official release said.

Asking them to treat the project as a top priority, he said once the survey work is over, the departments concerned should co-ordinate with each other and prepare a DPR in consultation with the National Highway Authority of India, it said.

He also asked the officials to explore the possibilities of developing towns based on the concept of smart cities in the hill areas besides developing suburban towns around fast developing ones like Nainital, Almora and Pauri.
