Survey on Port connectivity in Gujarat

Deloitte: The global consulting firm, in association with the Confederation of Indian Industry, recently undertook a survey on the issues relating to port connectivity in Gujarat, which is poised to witness a big jump in the volume of sea-borne trade. The survey focused on the views of various stakeholders on port connectivity in the State, identified the problems and suggested measures for their possible solutions. For example, the survey noted that such problems as the lack of four-lane highways leading to ports, delays caused by congestion, absence of domestic transport hub, inadequate facilities for movement of small size parcels, among others, deserved proper attention, given the bright prospects of several new port projects coming up in the State. However, it is also felt that the State can hope to witness the anticipated growth in sea-borne trade by 2020, provided the connectivity issue is also addressed adequately along with the plans for new ports.
