Tamil Nadu Aims to Finish Defence Testing Projects by December.
Tamil Nadu is on track to complete its flagship defence testing infrastructure projects by December 2025, according to a recent statement from Guidance, the state-backed investment promotion agency.
The projects, which are a cornerstone of the state's defence industrial corridor, are being developed in collaboration with both public and private sector partners. They are strategically located in Vallam Vadagal in Kancheepuram district and in Tiruchirappalli. The Tamil Nadu Industrial Development Corporation Ltd (TIDCO) is spearheading the initiatives.
Key Projects Underway
The four projects currently under implementation are:
Unmanned Aerial Systems Testing Centre: Known as ADART, this facility is being set up in Sriperumbudur.
Electronic Warfare Testing Facility: Located in Vallam Vadagal.
Electro-Optics Testing Facility: Also in Vallam Vadagal, this facility is called LENS.
Mechanical and Material Systems Testing Facility: Known as STREAM, this project is in Tiruchirappalli.
According to Guidance, these facilities are designed to "strengthen India's journey towards Atmanirbhar Bharat (self-reliant India)" by closing gaps in domestic testing capabilities. They will provide much-needed, affordable certification support to micro, small, and medium enterprises, as well as start-ups.
The completion of these projects is expected to significantly reinforce Tamil Nadu's position as a leader in the aerospace and defence manufacturing sectors.
