Tamil Nadu CM Vijay Seeks Faster Execution of Godavari-Cauvery-Gundar River Link.

Here's a rewritten news story in a concise business-news style:

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay has urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to expedite the implementation of the Godavari-Cauvery-Gundar river-linking project and accord it the status of a "project of national importance," citing the State's growing water stress.

In a letter to the Prime Minister on Thursday, Vijay said Tamil Nadu is inherently deficient in surface water resources and depends on neighbouring States for more than 30 per cent of its water requirements. He noted that groundwater resources have also been exploited to critical levels, with several regions continuing to face overexploitation despite sustained conservation and regulatory measures by the State government.

The Chief Minister said southern districts such as Pudukkottai, Sivaganga, Ramanathapuram and Virudhunagar remain chronically water-scarce and highly drought-prone, making the proposed river-linking project critical for the State's long-term water security. He said the Godavari-Cauvery-Vaigai-Gundar Link Project would enable the transfer of surplus floodwaters from water-surplus river basins to water-deficit regions, providing a sustainable solution to meet the increasing water needs of southern Tamil Nadu.

Vijay urged the Centre to fast-track the project and grant it national importance to ensure its timely implementation.
