Tata Group and IISc Collaborate to Launch ₹500 Crore Medical School in Bengaluru.

Tata Group announced a partnership with the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) recently to establish the Tata IISc Medical School at the institute's Bengaluru campus. The group will contribute ₹500 crore towards the initiative, which aims to create a cutting-edge medical education and research facility in India.

The Tata IISc Medical School will integrate basic science, engineering, and clinical practice to foster innovation in medical education and healthcare. It will focus on key specialities such as oncology, cardiology, neurology, nephrology, diabetes, infectious diseases, integrative medicine, and public health.

Tata Sons Chairman N Chandrasekaran highlighted the transformative potential of technology in healthcare, emphasizing the school’s mission to train physician-scientists in modern medical approaches. “This initiative will address one of India’s greatest challenges—healthcare—while unlocking opportunities for improved diagnosis, treatment, and community health,” he said.

IISc Director G Rangarajan expressed gratitude for the Tata Group’s ongoing support, noting that the institute owes its existence to the visionary philanthropy of Jamsetji Nusserwanji Tata. He stated, “We are committed to advancing this legacy by creating affordable healthcare solutions for India and the world. This collaboration marks a pivotal step in breaking new ground in medicine.”

The establishment of the Tata IISc Medical School represents a significant step forward in India’s healthcare and education sectors, with the potential to address critical gaps in clinical research and treatment accessibility.
