Tata Motors to Invest ₹914 Crore in New Manufacturing Plant in Tamil Nadu.

Tata Motors, one of India’s leading automotive manufacturers, has announced plans to invest ₹914 crore in the first phase of a new greenfield vehicle manufacturing facility in Tamil Nadu. The groundbreaking ceremony for the plant was held on September 28 in Panapakkam, Ranipet district, about 85 km from Chennai.

The state-of-the-art facility will produce high-end cars and SUVs, including models from Tata Motors and its luxury division, Jaguar Land Rover (JLR). The project forms part of a larger commitment by Tata Motors to invest ₹9,000 crore in Tamil Nadu over several years, as outlined in an agreement with the state government.

The first phase of the project will include the construction of a manufacturing plant covering 52,000 square meters within a sprawling 19,02,022.5 square meter site. The plant, which is expected to be operational within 15 months, will create approximately 1,500 jobs and have an annual production capacity of over 2.5 lakh units. Production is set to ramp up over the next 5 to 7 years to meet this target, focusing on next-generation vehicles, including electric and luxury models.

Tata Motors also plans to build a localized supplier ecosystem in Tamil Nadu to enhance supply chain efficiency and support the new facility.

JLR, the luxury vehicle arm of Tata Motors, is leveraging this investment to expand its footprint in India while maintaining a strong global presence with key facilities in the UK, US, China, and beyond. At a recent event hosted by EEPC India in Chennai, JLR officials engaged with local businesses to discuss procurement policies, technology, and sustainability initiatives.

JLR’s portfolio includes renowned models like the Range Rover, Defender, Discovery, and Jaguar, along with bespoke vehicles produced by its Special Vehicle Operations division and iconic restorations under its Classic Vehicles programme.

Currently, Tata Motors’ Pune facility assembles several JLR models, including the Range Rover Velar, Range Rover Evoque, Jaguar F-PACE, and Discovery Sport. The new Tamil Nadu plant is expected to further solidify Tata Motors’ position as a leader in both domestic and global automotive markets.
