Tata Motors to set up test track near Pune
Mumbai: Tata Motors is planning to invest Rs 400 crore for setting up an international standard test track near Pune.
The track could come up near its existing manufacturing plants in Ranjangaon and Pimpri-Chinchwad. The company already has a test track in Pune.
Mr A. Khan, the Industries Secretary of Maharashtra Government, said that the company is scouting for land near Pune. It wants the track to be close to its manufacturing facilities. The test track is a part of its Rs 6,000-crore investment plan for next five years. The company had announced the plan earlier this year, he said.
“The test track is part of the Rs 6,000-crore investment plan we have committed to the Government of Maharashtra earlier,” said the Tata Motors spokesperson.
Tata Motors had signed a MoU with the Government of Maharashtra on March 31 to facilitate the expansion of the company’s manufacturing plants and setting up of vehicle testing facilities near Pune.
The auto major said that the investment would generate direct employment to 1,500 people.
Tata Motors also has a 50:50 joint venture with Fiat India Automobiles Ltd, which will double its Ranjangaon plant capacity to 2,00,000 units with an investment of Rs 4,020 crore.
