Telangana Assembly Clears Resolution to Take Over Hyderabad Metro Phase-I from L&T.

The Telangana Assembly has approved a resolution backing the state government’s decision to take over the Phase I network of the Hyderabad Metro from Larsen & Toubro (L&T), as part of a broader plan to expand metro connectivity in the state.

According to an official release, the move is aimed at advancing the Metro Rail expansion project in line with public interest and long-standing demands from various sections of society. The government recently conducted a detailed review of the hurdles and challenges associated with taking forward the expansion.

The existing Phase I metro network spans 69 km and is currently under private management. The state has already submitted proposals to the Union Government for Phase II expansion, including Phase II(A) covering 76.4 km and Phase II(B) spanning 86.1 km, while also outlining the current status of the project.

Citing technical, legal, and operational complexities in executing Phase II through a joint venture between the state and central governments, the Assembly endorsed the state’s plan to address concerns raised by the Centre. The takeover of Phase I will be carried out through Hyderabad Metro Rail Limited (HMRL), paving the way for a more streamlined approach to future expansion
