Telangana identifies site for thermal projects in Nalgonda.

The Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao has said that it is proposed to develop thermal power plants with total capacity of 7600 MW in Damacharla in Nalgonda district of the State.

This includes a power project of NTPC and ultra mega power project by TS Genco.

This announcement comes after an aerial view of the areas where the project could come up and a detailed review meeting the Chief Minister had on the power sector in the state. The location for new projects in Nalgonda was decided based on rail connectivity and water availability from Krishna river.

Following the aerial survey, he along with officials of the energy department decided that the location would be suitable for the proposed power plant.

While NTPC has hinted at further capacity addition, about 1600 MW is likely to be added near the existing Ramagundam super thermal power project where works have already commenced.

The TS Genco on its own is planning to develop thermal power generation capacity of about 6000 MW. Of this it would have four units of 270 MW in Khammam district. Other sites for new plants are under finalisation.
