Telangana seeks Rs. 777 cr from Centre for ITIR phase-I.

The IT Ministry of Telangana has asked the Union Government to sanction Rs. 777 crore more for the first phase of the ITIR (Information Technology Investment Region). While sanctioning the first ITIR for the undivided Andhra Pradesh, the then Government had promised an assistance of Rs. 942 crore to kick-start the project.

As against the commitment, the Centre has so far released Rs. 165 crore.

Telangana IT Minister K Taraka Rama Rao was in Delhi recently met the Union IT Minister, Ravishankar Prasad, and submit a memorandum, requesting him to release the additional funding as promised in the proposal.

The first phase, which will be completed by 2019, includes extension of the MMTS (Multi-Modal Transport Service) to the international airport from the last port of Umdanagar at a cost of Rs. 85 crore.

'Nearly half of the Rs. 942 crore would go into building road power infrastructure. We expect an expenditure of Rs. 417 crore to set up dedicated transformers in various places and Rs. 440 crore for upgradation and widening of roads,' the Minister said in the memorandum.

The Minister added that the State Government had identified four areas of Kokapet, Adibatla, Pocharam and Brahmani to kick-start the first phase of ITIR. 'We have about 3,000 acres of government land there where we are planning to develop IT parks.'
