Terumo Penpol opens new plant

Thiruvananthapuram: Terumo Penpol Ltd (TPL), a leading producer of blood bags based here and a subsidiary of Terumo Corporation of Japan, has opened its new factory premises.

The parent Terumo Corp specialises in the manufacture and sales of medical products and equipment, including pharmaceuticals, nutritional food supplement, blood bags, disposable medical devices, cardiovascular systems and vascular grafts.

Mr Kenji Sekine, President, Transfusion Business of Terumo Corp, inaugurated the building situated at suburban Puliyarakonam here recently.

The new plant will enable Terumo Penpol to double its production capacity from the existing 13 million, a spokeswoman for the company said.

A significant portion of this output is exported. The company’s strategy for growth envisages further expansion of capacity, modernisation of processes, adherence to strict quality assurance protocols and a drive to boost efficiency in manufacturing.

TPL has successfully launched a whole range of medical electronic products for use in blood transfusion centres and blood banks designed to significantly enhance safety, quality and efficiency of blood transfusion.

In 1995, it was accorded the ISO 9002 certification for manufacturing and marketing of blood bags. During the same year, it won the Government of India’s award for research and development efforts. In 2000, the equipment division secured the ISO 9001 certification for design and manufacturing.

The company has been consistently winning top exporter awards for medical disposables and surgical products.

The Plastic Exports Promotion Council has feted TPL as the second best exporter for nine consecutive years from 1999.
