Textile panel identifies 25 products for growth

Coimbatore: The expert committee on technical textiles, which conducted a study on scope of promoting industrial textile in the country, has earmarked 25 technical textile products.

According to Mr D. Bandhyopadhyay, Deputy Director (in-charge), Regional Office of the Textile Commissioner, Coimbatore, the committee had also prepared the detailed project proposals for these product categories.

Speaking at the seminar on `non-woven technology' organised by the CII, Coimbatore, Mr Bandhyopadhyay said that potential for geo-textiles and medical textiles was high in so far as commercialisation of product application in the industrial textiles.

Mr A.J. Mayekar, Deputy General Manager, textile engineering (marketing) of the Mumbai-based ATE Marketing Private Ltd, participating at the meet, said that world over, all the successful textile enterprises had gone into technical textiles, essentially because profit margins from traditional textile businesses began to shrink.

Indian textile companies could take advantage as textile manufacture was shifting out of high-cost economies like the US and Europe and the wider raw material sources available here could prove a big positive factor to seriously looking at non-woven/industrial textiles where the profit margins would be higher.
