Titan and National Agro Foundation Rejuvenate Gunduperumbedu Lake Near Chennai.

Titan Company, in collaboration with the National Agro Foundation, has successfully rejuvenated Gunduperumbedu Lake in Sriperumbudur near Chennai, boosting local agriculture and water resources.

The project involved the removal of 1.05 lakh cubic metres of silt, strengthening of bunds, and construction of a 435-metre toe wall. Additionally, two sluice gates, a surplus weir, and a check-weir were renovated, along with the construction of a new RCC passway bridge.

As a result of these efforts, the 157-hectare lake's water holding capacity has increased by 26 crore liters, enabling farmers to extend cultivation by 3 to 5 months annually. The water table has risen by nearly 10 feet, leading to a 20 percent expansion in cultivable land—adding 50 to 100 acres—according to a statement from Titan.
