UAE firm eyes investment in Tripura
Tripura: UAE-based Techmate International has evinced interest in investing Rs 2,000 crore in Tripura and has asked for 300 acres of land from the Government for the purpose, official sources said.
A four-member delegation of the company led by Ansar Abdul Gafoor met Chief Minister Manik Sarkar and Industries Minister Jitendra Chowdhury last night and expressed their interest in setting up an international medical city and a global village for IT industry and tourism.
State Industry Minister Jitendra Chowdhury said that tech group consultant Shamrock Consultancy had earlier visited the state to study the investment opportunity for Techmate.
About 1 lakh Bangladeshis come to India every day for treatment at various hospitals in South India. If hospital of international standard could be built up in Tripura then the Bangladeshis as well as the people from different north eastern states can get healthcare facilities in the state, Gafoor told reporters.
Italy is also interested to invest in Tripura, official sources said.
Consul General of Deputy High Commission of Italy, Bruno Camparia also met the Chief Minister and Industries Minister and discussed about the possibility of investment.
Sources said, Government always welcomed any investment, which would generate employment, mobilise local resources and develope infrastructure.
Sources said, Sarkar has requested the Italian diplomat to explore the possibilities for investment in the field of food processing, bamboo based handicrafts, tourism and gas based industries as natural gas is available in Tripura.
