Voltas Projects Robust Summer Expansion, Targets Emerging Data Centre Market.

Voltas, a leading player in the air-conditioner market, is targeting strong double-digit growth in the upcoming summer season, banking on forecasts of normal or above-normal temperatures to drive demand.

Mukundan Menon, Managing Director of Voltas, said the company is well prepared to meet the anticipated surge in sales. “We are geared up for good demand and expect to see strong growth during the summer season with predictions of a normal or better-than-normal summer. We are targeting double-digit growth in the first quarter,” he told businessline.

To support its growth plans, the company has ramped up manufacturing capacity to around 3 million units across its plants in Chennai and Pantnagar. Menon added that Voltas has the capability to further scale up production to 3.5 million units over the next two years.

Industry-wide, the air-conditioner segment is expected to expand by 15–20 per cent in 2026 compared to the previous year, when unseasonal rains dampened demand. However, manufacturers are grappling with rising input costs.

Menon said Voltas is considering a price increase of 5–15 per cent on new models, depending on the category. The proposed hike is attributed to higher commodity prices, currency fluctuations with the rupee weakening against the dollar, and the implementation of revised Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) energy labelling norms. He noted that the GST rate cut announced last year is expected to partly cushion the impact of higher prices on consumers.

In addition to strengthening its core room air-conditioner business, Voltas is also looking to tap into the growing demand for cooling solutions in data centres, positioning it as an emerging opportunity for future growth.
