UltraTech Cement, a prominent entity under the Aditya Birla Group, has recently commissioned two new greenfield capacities, each boasting 5.4 million tonnes per annum (mtpa), in Chhattisgarh and Tamil Nadu. This development catapults UltraTech's overall capacity to a substantial 152 mtpa.
Not content with this achievement alone, the company has committed to further expand its capacity by another 50 mtpa within a span of less than five years, backed by an investment of approximately ₹32,000 crore.
The current capacity of UltraTech Cement surpasses 150 percent of that in the United States and 80 percent of the entirety of Europe combined. Remarkably, it took the cement business of the Aditya Birla Group a span of 36 years to reach a capacity of 100 mtpa.
Kumar Mangalam Birla, Chairman of the Aditya Birla Group, hailed this milestone as symbolic of India's rise on the global stage, showcasing the dynamism and scale of Indian corporations. He emphasized that UltraTech's extensive network, comprising integrated cement plants, grinding units, bulk terminals across 59 locations in India, and 307 ready mix concrete plants, sets it apart.
In the last two decades, UltraTech has witnessed an extraordinary growth rate of 11 times, far exceeding the industry's growth rate of 4 times.
Moreover, over the past 12 months alone, UltraTech has augmented its capacity by 18.7 mtpa. Concurrently, an ongoing expansion of 35.5 MTPA across 16 locations is actively underway, alongside the imminent closure of the proposed acquisition of Kesoram Cement. This acquisition is poised to further enhance UltraTech’s grey cement capacity to 198.2 mtpa. In alignment with its ambitious growth plans, UltraTech has earmarked a capex of ₹32,400 crore over the next three years.
KC Jhanwar, Managing Director of UltraTech Cement, expressed confidence in the cement sector's potential for long-term growth, buoyed by the country's robust growth trajectory.
