VA Tech Wabag Bags Major ₹380 Crore Order from BWSSB.
VA Tech Wabag, a leading water technology company, has clinched a significant Design, Build, Operate (DBO) order valued at approximately ₹380 crore from the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB). The project, backed by the World Bank, focuses on enhancing Bengaluru's water infrastructure and sustainability.
The comprehensive order entails the Design, Engineering, Construction, and Commissioning (EPC) of advanced Wastewater Treatment Plants (WWTPs). These facilities will incorporate a Tertiary Treatment Facility, Biogas Generation, Solar Sludge Drying Beds, and Intermediate Pumping Stations, along with associated piping works.
According to a company announcement to the National Stock Exchange, the project is slated for completion within 30 months, followed by a 10-year period of Operation and Maintenance.
These state-of-the-art WWTPs will be strategically located at four sites in Bommanahalli as part of the Karnataka Water Security and Disaster Resilience Program. Their implementation is crucial for ensuring the region's long-term water sustainability. By utilizing advanced treatment technologies, the plants will facilitate the industrial reuse of tertiary-treated wastewater, significantly reducing the demand for freshwater and bolstering Bengaluru's overall water security.
Further underscoring its commitment to environmental stewardship, the project includes a green initiative: the anaerobic digestion of sludge to generate biogas. This biogas will be used to power plant operations, thereby decreasing reliance on external energy sources, improving operational efficiency, and contributing to broader sustainability objectives.
