Vedanta Aluminium Expands Lanjigarh Refinery Capacity to 5 Million Tonnes Per Year.

Vedanta Aluminium, India’s largest aluminium producer, has expanded the capacity of its Lanjigarh Refinery to 5 million tonnes per annum (MTPA), reinforcing the country’s push for self-reliance in aluminium production.

According to a company statement, the expansion positions Vedanta Lanjigarh as the world’s second-largest alumina refinery outside China. The move also raises India’s total alumina refining capacity to nearly 13 MTPA, making the country the third-largest global producer.

“The Lanjigarh facility alone accounts for 38 per cent of India’s total alumina output, making it the largest single-location alumina refinery in the country,” the statement added.
