Vietnamese Automaker VinFast Opens First Indian Plant in TN.

Just 15 months after breaking ground, Vietnamese automaker VinFast officially inaugurated its electric vehicle (EV) manufacturing plant in the southern port town of Thoothukudi on Monday. The new facility is set to produce EVs for both the Indian and global markets.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin and VinFast Asia CEO Pham Sanh Chau were on hand to launch the facility and unveil the premium VF7 car, marking the start of production.

This new plant adds another major name to Tamil Nadu's thriving auto industry, a region often referred to as the "Detroit of Asia." For Thoothukudi, the investment is a significant step toward industrial revival. The town has been working to recover economically since the 2018 closure of the Sterlite Copper smelter plant.
