Vizhinjam Port Commences Commercial Operations.

Commercial operations at the Vizhinjam International Seaport officially began on Tuesday, marking the completion of the port's initial phase after a five-month trial period.

Ports Minister V. N. Vasavan confirmed that the port’s infrastructure and operations were completed in collaboration with Vizhinjam International Seaport Ltd, Adani Vizhinjam Port Private Ltd, and agencies such as the Indian Institute of Technology Madras. The Minister also noted that a provisional completion certificate for the first phase would be issued by an independent engineer following an assessment.

While minor work is still to be completed over the next three months, it will not impact the ongoing operations. The port’s formal commissioning follows a recent supplementary concession agreement signed between the state government and Adani Ports.

During its trial phase, the port has already handled 70 cargo ships, including ultra-large mother vessels, and processed 1,47,000 containers. Minister Vasavan emphasized that the commencement of commercial operations at Vizhinjam will significantly impact Kerala's international trade and contribute to the state's economic growth.
