VOC Port to Get ₹1,500-Crore Boost as Sonowal Lays Foundation Stone.

The Union Minister of Ports, Shipping & Waterways, Sarbananda Sonowal, recently inaugurated and laid the foundation for projects worth over ₹1,500 crore at the V.O. Chidambaranar Port in Thoothukudi.

The initiatives include upgraded rail and road connectivity, enhanced power infrastructure, renewable energy integration-including solar, wind, battery storage, and green hydrogen production-advanced safety systems, and digital platforms.

According to the VOC Port Authority, these projects are expected to improve cargo evacuation efficiency, reduce vessel turnaround times, strengthen multimodal logistics, and enhance operational safety, marking a major step in modernising the port’s infrastructure.
